Discuss Ocean's Eight

As the main selling point of the Ocean's films was a particular brand of easy going cool and slickness, I was quite surprised at how uncool the chosen cast were for it's all women counterpart. Not that I dislike them or think them untalented. Just that they're miscast. (Except for maybe Rihanna. But her bubble gum pop image arguably compromises things)

So who would you pick for a more appropriate, all women team that would blend more naturally with the series' style?

Here's my attempt. And don't worry, I've taken into account diversity and the more aged. I'm also thinking about budgetary limitations so I'm not picking 8 multi-million dollar movie stars.

  1. Charlize Theron
  2. Marion Cotillard
  3. Jane Fonda
  4. Zoe Kravitz
  5. Freida Pinto
  6. Robin Wright
  7. Rinko Kikuchi
  8. Janelle Monae

Hers my picks:

  1. None

Because its idiotic to remake any film with a gimmick as stupid as a 'gender swap' or a 'race swap' as a money hungry grab attempt.

It is, but that's a debate that has taken place in countless other threads elsewhere. This is just a bit of fun. A bit of fun. See if you can do a better money hungry grab attempt than the retarded producers by picking a better cast.

Alright ill bite...but I still dont approve of the money grab...but if I was a producer I would go for the following:

  1. Rooney Mara
  2. Saoirse Ronan
  3. Léa Seydoux
  4. Jennifer Connelly
  5. Michelle Monaghan
  6. Naomi Watts
  7. Naomie Harris
  8. Anya Taylor-Joy

I picked girls that I think can act and bring something to the cast. Also different age ranges. Not much diversity but I wouldn't be trying to please the SJWs by meeting diversity quotas. grin

There ya go. And a fine selection too. I almost picked Rooney Mara for my 8. I could definitely see Lea Seydoux as an excellent fit for the material.

Lea Seydoux and Naomie Harris can't act and your list of actresses isn't well known enough be worth even free entry into a showing of that alternative at a cinema. The real ocean 8 cast is infinitely better but needed Charlize Theron that's it. Actresses who've been around the block not glorified pretty girls.

What? Lea can act. And shes got that exotic European look to her. Harris can also act, check out Moonlight. And your saying people dont know who Jennifer Connelly, Naomi Watts, and Michelle Monaghan are? Really? The rest are still pretty young and fresh faced but come on. The real ocean 8 cast is defiantly not better. The only saving grace is Hathaway and Blanchett, everyone else is garbage. For fucks sake they hired Rihanna! And you still think its a better cast?

I know Jennifer, Michelle, Naomi and so on but they're all new and not established actresses that stand out. Rihanna has her fans to bolster the movie. It's about your star power and fan base. Lea and Naomi are known actresses but not household blockbuster names or that defined. It's hard to explain.

I know what you mean. And I agree to a point. But are we talking better actresses or better draw for the box office? Had this type of conversation back on the old imdb boards about Scarlett Johansson being cast for Ghost In the Shell. Some people couldnt understand that there are no Asian actresses in Hollywood that could bring in the crowd like SJ could. So I understand the reasons for throwing in someone like Rihanna.

I'm going to take this challenge and turn it on its ear a little. I'm going to pretend that time period is fluid and that I can use ANY actresses I want.

  1. Rita Hayworth (1940's)

  2. Katharine Hepburn (1950's) or if you need an older actress (1970's)

  3. Elizabeth Taylor (1960's)

  4. Ingrid Bergman (1940's)

  5. Sally Field (1970's)

  6. Jodie Foster (1990's)

  7. Sophia Loren (Oh hell, ANY period)

  8. Sigourney Weaver (C'mon, just look at my user name) (Late '90's)

Imo, this cast would wipe the floor with any cast you could put together from the modern era.

Take out Weaver, Foster and Field out and you're on you're way to an awesome alternative to the 60s Sinatra version. I think an all female version would actually fit in a lot better back then when we didn't have the SJW politics flying around so prominently. It would be more natural.

Your list is shitt.

Why don't you bless us with a list of you're own, Senor Racer? You can show us how it's done. I'm sure there's plenty of room for Kate Beckinsale :p

Bah you had to quote him so I could see his reply. Blocked that dickwad ages ago. Never adds anything to these discussions that I couldn't get from watching a monkey pick its ass and sniff its finger.

LOL!

Alien Fanatic, I'm really surprised at what Damien Racer just said. He said he thinks you're an awesome dude and he's really sorry for calling your list shit. He feels really bad about it and he wants to be buds.

Maybe the guy is turning over a new leaf.

No, I don't indulge in incel virgin male lists of women you'll never shag.

Come on, dude. You know you want to. No one will think any less of you.

Dude, his insult was way funnier than yours have ever been. He kicked your ass with one post. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but I think you should give up your day job. The whole trolling thing just isn't for you. You just say the same things over and over again. 'That's shit', 'You're stupid', 'This is garbage', etc, etc, etc.

Sometimes it's just time to move on.

In fact was this reply meant to make me weep and cry into my pillow? Or throw myself off a bridge because an incel with a tmdb account thinks he knows cuss wordz? Do you literally think in your empty head that I would care what you think? Think again. You stick to your imaginable (top ten list of women who'd never give me the time of day) lists you type up in your basement and leave the thinking to someone else.

Of all posters here you are the one most concerned with what other posters think of you. You want to be engagged because it gives meaning to your life (this post will probably be the climax of your day)... It's clear to all posters how much this online persona of yours actually means to you... Yet it is so generic, so banal, simple internet rage and nothing else...

Don't worry... You can share your thoughts on movies here. We won't think any less of you (how could we as you've set the bar so low...)... Really... Anything anyone says about movies is better than the banalities of your internet-boy insults... Even this following list of Alt-LifeStyle Oceans 8 alternatives (we all know exactly what you're going to say about this list... You are that predictable and humourless)...

  • Sarah Paulson (keep her, works)
  • Kristen Stewart
  • Ellen DeGeneres
  • Jodie Foster
  • Ruby Rose
  • Ellen Page
  • Caitlyn Jenner
  • Ricky Martin

Imagine how triggered the internet would have been with that list instead of the current Oceans 8 movie... People really need to get over themselves...
