It's no wonder that their father lost his mind and went berserk with those two obnoxious little brats. Honestly, if I had kids like them, and they told me they were heading off to London to live with their stepfather, I'd be thanking my lucky stars.

I disagree. The father is already stupid at the beginning of the film and then completely loses his mind. Below a certain IQ, one should not own weapons... this film is proof of that. In fact, it proves that no one should own them.
