Discuss The Irishman

After watching so many great films with these great actors in them - Joe Pesci - Robert de Niro - Al Pacino - Harvey Keitel - in their prime - it is sad now to see them really far too old and looking it for this movie. I enjoyed the film - it was slow paced, plausible and well -acted. I am not sure if it needed to be quite so long - but time spent with these actors is rarely wasted.

Watch movies like Novencento by Bertolucci(>5 hrs),Barry Lyndon (3hrs) or Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time In America (almost 4hrs) and I think you will understand what Scorcese was aiming at.And specifically Leone's film which has a similar structure and narrative style as The Irishman.

Once upon a time in America is probably my favourite film - I have no problem with the length of a film if it needs that time to develop the plot and the characters - I think The Irishman however for me - just didn't have the intricacy and depth of Once upon a time in America. I think Harvey Keitel was under used in this movie also. I enjoyed it - but not as much.
