Discuss Brawl in Cell Block 99

I am speechless, just finished watching this and what was that? Wow. Completely unexpected, I hoped it will be something good but I was never expecting this. From the very first moment this was one thrilling and captivating ride. Minute after minute you follow Bradley and his slow descent into hell, step by step you see him submerging deeper and deeper into madness, one breath, one hit, one punch, one broken arm at a time. And if there was a bottom to hell Bradley would just punch his way through to the other side, because there is no stopping that force.

I understand that this movie is not for everyone, there will be people who will despise it. For its ultra violence, for the extreme darkness and the ugliness of the world he is depicting. But I guess it's the exact same reasons other people would love it. Watch out for the director S. Craig Zahler, he did excellent Bone Tomahawk and now he made few steps further. Based on Wikipedia he wrote around 20 scripts that were shopped around in Hollywood but never been made. I can see why, his vision is remarkable enough to get people hooked, but when they think it over and time passes it begins to scare them and they just try to get away from it as far as possible. So he made a correct decision - if you want something to get made you have to do it yourself. I hope he will get to make as much as possible.

S. Craig Zahler is imho a magnificent writer and director, all of his film's going back to Asylum Blackout (writer) have been very well done and memorable. Bone Tomahawk was a masterpiece and Brawl in Cell Block 99 was as well, his style is so damn unique that it's hard to compare him to anyone else. He's has a trademark mind and thinks up the most incredible journeys in his films all of which are original ideas, mostly.

I am a bit worried about him doing Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich mostly because I hate to see him working on such a silly c movie franchise. I doubt I'll watch it as I don't want to sour my high opinion of him and his work, while I've seen countless Puppet Master flicks and they all are imo just barely watchable, so I cringe at the thought of him writing and directing it. Although if anyone can make a solid badass PM flick he is the guy. So of course I'll probably just have to see it , but will be watching it with zero expectations going in.
