Discuss Death Wish

Can't be all shills, can it? What gives then.....Nothing against Bruce Willis or Eli Roth, but this was an extremely mediocre and generic movie without any originality. The tired old family member gets killed so regular-joe nobody turns into a highly effective serial killer overnight plot. Why even bother calling it Death Wish at this point since the plot has been done a million times and the only thing this movie seems to have in common with the original is the main characters name.

I wouldn't give it a perfect score, but, on the TMDB scale, I'd give it a solid 3.5/5 (so a 7 on that other site, which I no longer rate movies at).

This remake was fairly decent, I thought, since prior to its release many seemed to think, given the slant towards watered down PG-13 films nowadays, that this film would not be suitably violent and gritty. I thought it was a very effective film in this regard, and that the violence was not unduly toned-down, and thankfully, Bruce Willis was not nearly as much of a "smart-aleck" or as comedic as he has been in other films I've seen him in; instead, he played a much darker character in this film, as opposed to, say, his "Die Hard" days.

It wasn't bad on any level, but I think it was just ultra generic and mediocre and I thought there was nothing memorable or original in this film.

Didn't realise Roth directed but should've guessed once a guy's head got smashed opened with the brains flowing out. All in all a watchable film but there was no need for Vincent D'Onforio's character, who was constantly being teased to the audience as a traitor.

And Bruce Willis was terrible...what was up with his acting? No interest and couldn't even shed a tear for his dead wife.

As per most remakes it's just "passable" entertainment and not as good as the original. Why does Hollywood consistently do this? This was a 6/10 for me.

4/10 for me...it earned a spot on the "bad" side of the scale. As to the sandbagged 10's on "that other site", I assume that's all it's used for now: shilling for the industry. So stupid.

I thought it was delightful... a treat and a thrill to watch Willis turn into a vigilante and then an avenger...

People celebrate revenge porn movies like Django and Inglorious Basterds that subvert actual history... and the Hateful Eight as revenge movie, but they seem to have trouble with a new Death Wish movies because they were pre-triggered to think that it would be an SJW remake or that it would sully the original that already had half a dozen sequels... But Eli Roth did the right thing... Stayed true to the spirit of the original, but adapted it to the current culture... The controversy is still there, the movie is realistic in the sense that both perspectives on guns is present, i.e. it's not a revenge in a fantasy world, rather a revenge fantasy set in the real world...

It's worth a watch for exactly the people who don't want to watch it on either side of the issue... Compelling and highly entertaining...
