It is the same title that imdb is using. The cyrillic one is also just used as an alternative title.

Hello Mec!as,
thanks a lot for your quick response! I did notice, that imdb makes the same mistake (at least it's a mistake in my opinion). But I don't think we should copy this 'error', since the original title of the movie is indeed "Чужая" (http://www.kinopoisk.ru/film/491889/) For example, In XBMC I would like to see the actual original title, not the transliterated version of the title. It works i.e. with the following movie: Шапито-шоу (https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/88491) As you can see, imdb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1651118/) doesn't tell me the proper original title for this movie either (it's listed only as alternative title too), but themoviedb does it right nonetheless. Since I'm very new here, I don't mean to insist on anything. I just think it would be consequent to do it right with the "Alien Girl" as well...
Best regards! bemmic

I'm jumping in here. I think the problem is that if themoviedb (or IMDB) started using primarily cyrillic or Chinese or Japanese letters, they would become useless or at least extremely difficult to use for the vast majority of its users. I think the way it is done now is the best, even though I can see your point of view as well. And I fixed the example you brought up since the English title used for the English translation should be Chapiteau-show and nothing else.

Hi,
I have to agree lineker and I understand where you are coming from. I think as well how it is done in that actual example is a good way to go, in case of a Russian made movie the original title could be transliteral and the Russian Translated title the crillic one. So that XBMC should show you the crillic title.

Thanks to both of you! I agree with you, the encoding of cyrillic and other writing systems can be a real pain... The main problem with transliterated/transcribed original titles is, that the search engine doesn't find the movie if I search by the cyrillic original title. It seems only to look at the original and English title fields (By the way, XBMC doesn't look at alternative titles either). If it doesn't find it there, I won't be able to find the movie. So I actually have to know the English title in advance or be able to transliterate/transcribe the title, which is not always that easy to do and can differ with some letters and somewhat from one transcribing person to another. But for the time being I'm ready to let it go and to cope with it :)
