Discuss The Salesman

SPOILER

I'm wondering if I missed something, but when and how did Emad know that the old man was the one who attacked Rana in their bathroom? I don't speak and understand Farsi - was there something specific that gave it away for Emad and us viewers? I mean, obviously, he knew when the old men took his shoes/socks off - that's not what I mean. I mean before that - the old man talked about his son-in-law and so on. How did Emad suspect it was him? Were there any hints or tics that gave the old man away? Or was it just Emad suspecting it out of the blue?

Best wishes,

janar

Ah, you mean Emad got suspicious thinking the old men must have the phone number of his son-in-law? That's a good idea; I have to check the scene again, I think I missed that when I watched it ...

Thank you very much for your reply! slight_smile

Yeah, he lost his phone, remember. I don't think he lies, I just think that he doesn't have his son in law's number yet on his new phone.

Wait, I don't understand: You don't think the old man lied when he was talking about not having the number of his son-in-law? But @strain thinks he did, and that's why Emad got suspicious ...

I really have to watch this scene again as soon as I find some time. It's a bit blurry in my mind right now and I'm confused about it ...

Anyway, thanks for your reply! slight_smile

Didn't Emad bring the mobile phone/cash that Rana's attacker left behind at the new flat after he attacked her?

First he accepted the old man's explanation that he didn't have Majid's number, but then he clicked, and when he remembered that the attacker left the phone behind, he realised that the old man would have got a new phone, had to import all the contacts etc.

Thank you so much for your reply! kissing_cat I finally made the connection between the phone that the old man left behind and the new phone he had to buy because of it. Somehow I forgot about this while watching and I didn't understand what @SunParakeet and @strain tried to explain to me ...

I actually watched the scene again, and it seems like that Emad finally was convinced because the old man said during his conversation on the (new) phone that his son in law doesn't have his new number, yet. I didn't realize the connection when I first watched the movie, but now it's very clear to me.

Thanks again, @saba01!
