...big U turn to go back where are the ships or just heading to the sea in same direction as ships? Surely this could be done even without engine, he still had quite altitude or why not just jump outside when he went already past all waiting soldiers? He must have known he will end up beyong perimeter.

You must be pretty dense then, he obviously destroyed it to stop the Germans from using it. Why give them a free fighter plane?
