It was just announced Kyle Chandler has joined the movie as MBB's (Millie Bobby Brown) father. Also mentions Ken Watanabe will return as Serizawa. Serizawa is definitely the one character I want to see return to this franchise because of his knowledge and fascination with Godzilla.

So far we know that Chandler and Brown are appearing. And its really likely Watanabe will show up. However I wonder if Taylor-Johnson and Olsen will be casted in this movie as well
There is no need for those characters. There arcs were complete and are unnecessary to bring back. Besides, there weren't interesting enough to care for.

Wonder why the Taylor-Johnson and Olsen characters were not very well made? Was this intentional on the part of the directors?
Johnson's character was only interesting when he was interacting with his father. It was that father-son dynamic that gave the pair something to relate to. If they kept Cranston alive at least until the final act it would make a great journey where you see these characters have more time to rebuild their family relationship. And because Johnson is jumping from one set piece to another without having any kind of meaningful conversation with anyone, he no longer feels like a character and is just a plot device.
Olsen was underused in the film. She doesn't have that much to work with because the role is very small. It really was a minor role that could of gone to any other actress.

Yep thats true. I wish they just used one location for the Godzilla-Muto fight. It would have made it so much more feasible for Johnson's character to be in the middle of all that action. Seriously, that guy brings so much bad luck to all these people around him. He encounters those creatures in Janjuria in Japan, Hawaii, and California. What are the chances of ONE GUY being present in almost all of those Kaiju rampages? And it would have been interesting for Olsen to have accompanied her "husband" in the final battle scene
Yeah I wished Olsen would have had more impact on the story. The only difference she makes if putting her child on the bus that drives on the bridge that Godzilla destroys.
I hope with the casting of MBB means they could be going for a Stranger Things route where she is somehow connected to the monsters and justify why that character is always at the same place as the creatures.

I got a strong hunch that MBB's character is going to be hunted by Ghidorah, and she is very likely connected to Mothra. And how many times had the golden gate bridge been destroyed in a movie? It's becoming quite the cliche now.
MBB said recently at a comic con panel that Kyle Chandler was one of her favourite actors. He starred in a sport-based TV show which I've never ever even heard of before but apparently MBB loves it.

Two reasons.

Update; Vera Farmiga has been casted as Brown's "mother" in this movie. http://variety.com/2017/film/news/godzilla-2-vera-farmiga-millie-bobby-brown-mom-kyle-chandler-1201998013/
