It seems to me that despite this film's many flaws, the more approaches that can be made to Scientology the better. The organization brings much of this scrutiny on themselves through their own secrecy and paranoia. I liked at the end of the film that the filmmaker suggests that it is likely more helpful to see adherents as "good people" rather than "monsters" as this helps us see the very human tendency to get caught up in one another's control.

The abuse started with Miscavige IMO. I think he has small man's syndrome.. (he's 5'1)
I think there's something really suspicious about his wife who hasn't been seen for years. I just read an article that headlined "Finally a pic with Miscavige and his wife or something like that, dated this month. The photo is quite a few years old.

I know there's debate about this, but didn't the LAPD say they "met with the person" basically confirming she is alive (whether or not she is "free" may well be debatable)?

I don't know, it still sounded pretty suss to me..(but that could be me because I watch too many crime shows) The police didn't give much away. But you could be right, he probably has her locked up on some estate somewhere. He sounds like a real meglomaniac and I wouldn't be surprised if he has her hidden somewhere for something minor that he disapproved of.

I feel the same way about the Catholic church. How many more boys (and girls) have to be sexually abused before something is done?
With Scientology, how many more allegations of abuse and being held captive will it take to get this obvious moneymaking scheme shut down?

Another redo for those fascinated by cults is the documentary Holy Hell.
The more I learn about cults, the more my mind is boggled by how many there are, and how many otherwise rational, intelligent, "normal" people get sucked into them. I think the promise of friendship and community and good health and success in life is obviously hard to resist for many people, even if you have to endure some unsavoury stuff along the way.
