개요

코렐리아 행성에서 노예처럼 일하던 빈민가의 청년 한(앨든 이렌리치)은 사랑하는 키라(에밀리아 클라크)와 함께 행성을 탈출할 기회를 노리고 있다. 우주 최고의 파일럿이 되기를 꿈꾸지만 현실은 못된 악당에게 붙들려 밀수꾼 노릇을 하는 중. 우여곡절 끝에 행성을 탈출하지만 키라와 생이별을 하게 된 한은 우주를 떠돌다가 츄바카(요나스 수오타모), 랜도(도널드 글러버), 베킷(우디 해럴슨) 등을 만나 엄청난 가치를 지닌 우주 자원 탈취 작전을 공모하게 된다. 파일럿이 되어 키라 곁으로 돌아갈 궁리만 하던 한의 계획은 드라이덴 보스(폴 베타니)의 등장과 함께 꼬여만 가는데...

디즈니 영화 ‘한 솔로-스타워즈 스토리(Solo: A Star Wars Story)’ (2018)

일단 스타워즈의 몰락은 명약관화하다. 제작 수장들을 갈아치우지 않는 이상 답은 없어 보인다.

그렇지만 그래도 Ron Howard는 평균 이상의 구성을 보여주고 손에 땀을 쥐게 하는 연출력을 보여준다. 이렇게 재밌대가리 없는 자산을 가지고 이 정도의 퀄리티를 뽑아 낸 것은 그가 감독이어서라 생각한다.

이번 영화의 최고 선택은 역시 L3-37을 드로이드로 대체한 부분이라 생각한다. 일부러 여성을 앞세우지 않고 드로이드 목소리를 여성으로 차용하되 반란과 혁명을 꿈꾸는 열혈 투쟁가로 정체성을 부여하자 전혀 새로운 느낌의 캐릭터를 생산해냈다.

최고의 명대사는 역시 L3-37이 외친 한 마디.

“Rebellion!”
