The parents seem to be loving their kids, happy and all, but the crash seems like a suicide. When the car enters the tunnel, you see red X signal-lights in the ceiling, hinting that they are driving in the wrong lane in the tunnel... Or am I just seeing things?

Accidents happen. They were probably driving in a country with whose roads they were unfamiliar. I didn't see anything to outright suggest it was suicide.
