Discuss Be Here Now

I just finished watching Be Here Now after seeing it listed on Netflix. I was so thrilled because I had been keeping up with the progress on it getting released from time to time and just saw the other day that it had been, but of course it had been a limited release, and I couldn't afford to buy the DVD. So, I was bummed and hoped to see it maybe somewhere several years from now.

Spartacus is one of my favorite series - if not my favorite - and I loved Andy Whitfield in the role. It was so heartbreaking to watch him as he was literally dying before us in this documentary. The documentary was extraordinary, as was Andy and his wife.

Just finished it. Really heartbreaking to watch how he was disappearing in front of the camera and still giving so much love and support to his family. Humble person and great actor. Rest in peace.

I recently watched Spartacus: Blood and Sand, even though I really am not into that kind of blood & gore drama. In fact I only dipped my toes into a few random episodes purely because I am a fan of two other stars in the show: Lucy Lawless and John Hannah. In truth I hadn't really heard of Andy up until this show.

Looking at his filmography, it was clear this was his big break, and it is great pity he was struck down with this awful disease just when Spartacus could have launched him into bigger and better things.

After watching this incredibly moving documentary I can see why he could have been a great actor: handsome, well spoken, tall, lean. But also coming across as very humble and ordinary. Give me one Andy Whitfield over 20 so-called film celebs any day of the week!

I can understand the limited release because I would imagine probably only fans of Spartacus would know who he was. But for all that it was very moving documentary, and now I appreciate his everyman qualities far more after this.
