Discuss Magnolia

After After the wedding Danish version this is one of the best films made. The writing is incredible all the characters are so finely tuned and the horror that is their emotional lives tears the viewer apart. I saw this film as a kid in California(I am not from California I was just visiting someone with my parents) I stayed to watch the end with my parents because I found it really interesting and wanted to see what happened to the poor grown wizkid and I was just fascinated by how all the characters intertwined. But most of the audience got up and left because it was so psychologically powerful. It is a shame that Americans cannot handle great movies and prefer these insipid blockbusters that have no substance. I promise you that Magnolia will shake you to your core and you will be entertained by the score and other brilliant maneuvers by P.T> Anderson in the process. You HAVE to see this film. I cannot believe that Fight Club is seen as more substantive than this incredible work of art. The writing makes Fight Club look like a joke and the poor excuse for violence that it is. I watched this as an adult and appreciate it even more.

It is truly a great film, though I wouldn't pan Fight Club :P

Heehee. I had to get that in there becasue I seriously did not think Fight Club was well done. I mean the interweaving of the characters in this film is flawless. I miss the old P.T. too bad he went into blockbusters and sold out. Punch Drunk Love was great too. Did you see it-if not see it! You'll love it -even despite Adam Sandler- i promise. I think this is the only film in which I liked Adam Sandler. Although I liked the character of Jill when he was a woman. LOL! Dudes are so in love with Fight Club what is that all about anyway? I HATE FIGHT CLUB AND The BIG LEBOWSKI. Raising Arizona was so much better!!! get over it.

Awful and turgid film. Painful to try and sit through for me. Not psycholigically but physically. Dull horid characters I didn't care about. Not a fan of PTA at all. Liked the songs though.

I find Fight Club like Memento and American Beauty something emblamatic of a particular 90s style that I prefer to leave in that decade.

Suppose I am off to see an inane superhero movie now being the rube I most certainly am. No wait I will now watch Sandlers' Waterboy. That should do the trick.

They left because they thought the ending was when all the main characters were singing that Aimee Mann song. I made the mistake of recommending this film to a few "straight" friends of mine and they apparently walked out. I used to be a huge PTA fan until he started making sh!tty films. This particular film I still think is somewhat of a masterpiece along with Boogie Nights, but it's really not for everyone.

How bizarre to make this about gay or straight. Yawn. Can you please be logical and discuss the film without involving your sexuality; it has no place here and makes me uncomfortable. I and All of my friends are straight and we love the film. We are on the same page as far as him going downhill though. I think you'd like Punch Drunk Love but it is a straight romance so maybe not if you are so judgemental about straight people and must obsessively involve your sexuality in everything. How annoying. Anyway I love this film.

I went to read your reviews and I have not heard of many of the films so still browsing to find one I want to watch. I am ignoring trolls.:D see no evil speak no evil hear no evil.

There's nothing remotely mainstream about any of PTAs films. Which are you referring to that suggest he's gone downhill or sold out? There are some I didn't like, but not because the quality wasn't still superb, just because they didn't resonate with me personally. The modern dance short he shot with Thom Yorke for Anima was incredible as well. I really think he's unique. Boogie Nights or Punch Drunk Love are probably the most mainstream movies he's done. Loved the former, the latter I couldn't stand (I know I'm against the grain on that one.)

Really weird reply seeing as though he has only made blockbusters since the awful There Will Be Blood but whatever. There wILL bE bLOOD HAD NO DEPTH. pUNCH dRUNK lOVE WAS AN ART FILM AND WAS NOT PLAYED IN ANY MAINSTREAM THEATRES. gET REAL. Are you speaking of the plagiarizer Thom York of Radiohead? I will NOT be watching that one. All I Need Is the Air That I Breathe and To Love You is the coolest, most beautiful song. Creep was a poorly made ripoff. The Hoillies were amazing Radiohead sucks. And yeah, He's a Creep. He's a Weirdo What the Hell is he plagiarizing for? he doesn't belong here!!!

Are you being ironic?
