I enjoyed the attitude of the film, very different from some of the chest beating, chisel jawed military films that can make their way to the big screen. None of the main military characters came across as that Hollywood stereotype. But given the severity of the subject matter, did it go too far with the humour?
Ping pong, farcical bureaucracy and indecision, casting of actors well known for light hearted or comic performances and (literally) toilet humour all feature.
Personally I think it worked well and struck a decent balance between entertainment and an observation on the quandaries of modern 'warfare'. The film lost the jovial atmosphere for at least the last forty minutes. If it had gone for unremitting tension and trauma for the full 90 minutes it probably would have been a bit overwhelming.
