Discusión Evolution

I wanted to address pedophilic vibe some might get from movie , it wasn't that though there were no apparent sexual undertones in this. It was rather more of motherly/protective/innocent nature of Stella. She was unaware of Nicolas's inability to survive under water. His resistance seemed like his constant struggle to get out to break free. The breathtaking scene (pun intended) where she uses her mouth to help him breathe and experience what comes naturally to her exploring sea.

Starfish doesn't appear to be symbol or metaphor just imagery which changes it's form throughout. Nicolas is repulsed by it , and all women seems to be some primitive species and he is in that transitory phase where he can't comprehend as he's evolved into something else. So both Stella and Nicolas are oblivious to what it all means(and so are us) but are still helping each other to survive , finding their own paths. The ending seems rather disappointing , all can be seen as weird medical experiments. It could very well be co-existence of different species/primitive beings as nothing is laid out or fed to you.

I thought that, in this particular scene, Stella was intentionally "drowning" Nicolas because she was trying to kill/drown the fetus that the other women had planted inside of him.

This whole film was really interesting and beautifully shot. I liked how the plot was minimalistic and not everything was explained, leaving room for interpretation. I really liked the ending, with Nicolas seeing the city lights in the near distance.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who thought this was a great film!

@Phasmophobia Why'd she do that ? They're all in that , aren't they? Using these children to extend these mutant species. Are you saying she's done this before ? Like boy we see at beginning ?

Her reviving him just afterwards seems so out of place. They already seemed to have some sort of bond , I thought she just wanted him to experience his new way of life and he was just resisting to it and she was forcing him , like mother smothers child with expectations/rules innocently and with love.

I thought ending gives it rather bland/stereotypical perspective. They're all medical experiments controlled by evil men who're not shown at all :)
