Discuss Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Shouldn't Rogue One be part of the Star Wars saga? I know it's a standalone movie and is not a direct part of the "Skywalker story" that ties episodes 1-7 but as it takes place between episodes 3 & 4 and the story is related to the original saga...

No, our collections are only for proper sequels. But when Travis will launch "universes" (whenever that may be), we will add it to the Star Wars universe. fingers_crossed

It may just be too early for this since Solo isn't out yet, but wouldn't it make sense to have two collections: 1) "Star Wars Saga Collection" for Episodes I - IX, and 2) "Star Wars Anthology Collection" for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and future entries? The creators have specifically named them "Saga" and "Anthology," so I'd argue that this should be considered a collection.

"...the Anthology film focusing on the villainous bounty hunter Boba Fett has been moved back to 2020, swapping places with the Solo movie." - Gamespot.com paraphrasing Kathleen Kennedy interview with Entertainment Weekly

I think we need to see how it will be released. If Solo is released as another 100% stand alone movies part of the same universe, I think it will be a no. If it is released as the second movie in a series of stand-alone movies, I'll have to discuss it with the other mods and Travis. Anthology sequels are not ideal though. If one of the upcoming movie does particularly well, they could maybe plan a sequel in a few years. shrug_tone1

Very good point.

The utility I'm using groups collections based on TheMovieDB, so I was just curious for down the road. At least the Anthology entries are accurately being kept out of the "Star Wars Collection."

Any thoughts/conclusions now that Solo has been released to home media? I could manually set/name collections, but the media organization software I use will eventually try to clean it up to match those defined on TheMovieDB.

Interestingly, I just looked at the alternative titles page, and one of the US entries was added by someone as "The Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One". Not debating the film's title here, just wanted to mention that I stumbled across that.

It was released as a stand-alone film. worried

It was, but did we ever expect it to be anything different from Rogue? With some really simple research, you can find that Disney/Lucasfilm refers to episodes 1-8 as the “Saga”, while referring to the recent films such as Solo and Rogue One as the “Anthology”.

I think both films (rogue one and solo) should be their own separate collection (a star wars story collection), after all, the creators have referred to them as a saga and even though they're not strictly a saga to each other, they generally serve as a prequel to the main star wars film series, plus they're both sub titled "a star wars story" which kind a makes it a collection by itself regardless of not being a saga, I created a collection called "a star wars story" consisting of both rogue one and solo and maybe obi wan by the time it gets released and of course it was deleted which is something that in my opinion should be heavily revised and reconsidered as an exception or something like that since it feels like they just belong together as a collection.

As I stated previously, there is no question that the films are explicitly understood to be either “Saga” or “Anthology”. It appears that the Star Wars Saga has been renamed the “Skywalker Saga”. Feel free to check the citations listed under the “Skywalker Saga” section of the ‘List of Star Wars Films’ Wikipedia page.

While the “Anthology” label doesn’t appear to be quite as set in stone, the interwebs seem to have generally accepted the use of this label for the standalone films as unofficially official.

In just a moment, I will submit another post with screenshots from sites and searches. Use of “Skywalker Saga” is clear (again, don’t take my word for it - check the citations attributed to the renaming statement in the article linked above).

Also notice Wikipedia, Forbes, Fandom, and GamesRadar - all well-known sites - use the ‘Anthology’ label.
