Discuss The Greatest Showman

...when you could go see these kinds of things?

I was under 11 years old growing up in Texas during the 60s. I remember going to Six Flags Over TX and other carnivals in the Dallas areas where we lived. It always bothered me seeing the name “Freak” in a show’s title. But still being a curious boy I had to see it. The two that have really stayed with me were the Lizard Man who wore a speedo and was covered with scales (likely some extreme dry skin disease) and Popeye who could bulge his eyes out of his skull.

Were these shows allowed everywhere?

You could also get just about any animal in a pet store, monkeys, gators, piranha and even a tiger cub!

lantzn, I haven't seen this movie, so am replying to your topic, rather than having any personal knowledge of anything about what this movie is like or about.

Yes: I'm a year your junior (we determined that in a Saturday Night Fever thread months back) and, indeed, do recall visiting, during growing up years, at least a couple or so traveling carnivals that came to my MidAtlantic region town. Each time they set up within five minutes easy walking distance of my house. I remember there being some "freak" attractions, though no longer am able to recall exactly what all was included. But there definitely was - I vaguely remember - a "lizard man". The years in question would have been sometime in the late '60s to early or possibly early mid '70s period.

Yeah, I missed the whole circus freak show thing too. Luckily I live in New York where if you go to Time Sq, Ripley's Believe it or Not is right there

I'm trying to go for an entertaining, informative youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. Review right here-https://youtu.be/8_-6y44Ueio

I'm watching Carnivale if anyone would like a good tv show recommendation.
