Just did not look like a Best Picture Oscar winner more of a glorified television film with some preachy pretensions.

Agreed. It got the sympathy vote because of the subject matter. I enjoyed Mad Max Fury Road, the Big Short and even the Martian way more than I did Spotlight. those movies are re watchable. Spotlight is one and done viewing

The Big Short for me was the best film of all the nominees.

What a poor year that was. The problem with 'Spotlight' was that it was too late. Everything about it had been done better as a documentary, as a TV series, etc.
'Bridge of Spies' was my personal choice. It's not a great film but it was the most competent.

From Spielberg I expect something more than competent

Yeah I just watched this and was not impressed. It was kind of boring...not really great storytelling...it ended and I was like, wait is that it? I like Mark Ruffalo but he couldn't carry this whole thing lol. It was just average.

Sicario and Joy were the best movies that year, but weren't nominated. Bridge of Spies and The Revenant both tower over Spotlight. It's such a small, inconsequential TV movie.
Even though it's only been a year since, we can already see how overrated and mediocre Spotlight is. Compared to La La Land it really does look like a made for TV movie.
