By Chris Lodge

Looking back on this on this excellent comedy drama leaves you with a number of regrets.

First that Jack Nicholson seems to have retired so early. He gives one of his best performances here as a smug, self-obsessed, obsessive-compulsive, anti-semitic, homophobic, romantic novelist. His eyebrows alone deserved an Oscar.

Then both Greg Kinnear's dog and Cuba Gooding Jr largely vanish in the second half of the film. They're both briliant!

Most of all, the film demonstrates just how good Helen Hunt can be. In one scene with Nicholson, a flick of her eyes speaks volumes. Its such a shame... read the rest.
