Özet

Mars gezegenine astronotların gönderildiği bir görevde, Mark Watney isimli astronot şiddetli bir fırtına sonrası öldü sanılarak ekibi tarafından terk edilir. Fakat Watney hayattadır ve kendisini Mars’ta yapayalnız bulur. Elindeki sınırlı olanaklarla, zekasını ve dayanıklılığını kullanarak dünyaya yaşadığına dair bir sinyal göndermeye çalışır. Milyonlarca mil uzakta NASA ve uluslararası bilim adamı durmaksızın bu ‘Marslı’nın eve dönmesi için uğraşırken, ekip arkadaşları da cesur bir kararla kurtarma operasyonunda yer alırlar.
