So far the MCU is really not utilizing some of their most endearing assets as powerful pieces of Marvel mythology. Wakanda is a place/feature I believe to be important to the character of Black Panther and is part of what defines who he is. Asgard should have been the same for Thor but it has been treated so cavalierly and apparently is a throw-away even for Alien-Norse Gods. I hope Wakanda doesn't get the same treatment and no I don't think such a linkage stunts the growth of a character.
Take the Star Trek series and it's definitive Captain and Crew. The Enterprise's rise, fall and resurrection is almost as important as any human/alien character in the series. Marvel has always had that intimate connection with New York but it has never been exploited much within the MCU. I understand the overall international demand consumption required for audiences to connect with Marvel/MCU but over time some of that connection was created by creating heroes from other places and or expanding the character's presence to other locales.
A bit too soon to destroy Wakanda before it is explored and allowed to let us all enjoy the mythos. Long form story telling should allow that within the MCU but some of these quick turns are disheartening. Stan Lee/Jack Kirby knew what they were doing by establishing their heroes in a real city with the heroes having real problems. Wakanda isn't real but for the Black Panther (just as Asgard was for Thor but just a tad different due to the Norse Mythology) can be a rich entertainment experience nonetheless.
Comeon Marvel/Disney let Wakanda breathe!!!
