Discusión Doctor Strange

As a collector of certain titles I always look forward to the release on media but of course am wary of the Director's Cut and extended cuts that used to be released well after the official release. Home release for the Marvel films seem to have cut back on special features and extras outside of the gag reel, featurettes, director commentary. I always looked forward to the extras but with Streaming services so prevalent all of that content now exists as part of streaming which I think really cuts into Home Media sales.

Doctor Strange has already been released in digital for Streaming services which I believe actually dampens the Home Media sales.

I do. Depending on how much i like the film. Also most new Blu-ray come with ultraviolet codes. So you kinda get the best of both worlds.

That soon, huh? Say, what are ultraviolet codes?

Oh there codes that you can redeem on places like Vudu.com.

Normally media offerings that have codes allow you to stream from a service. As someone else said VuDu being one of them. It is not the same as downloading the film locally to your desktop or to a storage device for later viewing. Streaming requires you to always have internet service in order to view and with more and more providers looking at placing caps on GB you might find yourself eventually having to pay for going over some limit. There is also the issue of quality. But no worries.

I prefer download as to Streaming and I prefer owning the media and making my own backup copies. An extra step but I gain more freedom and flexibility.

I haven't bought a DVD or Blu ray in years. Big on my iTunes collection. Buy the codes online.

I buy very little anymore, since I find most modern movies don't bear repeat viewings, but I will if the title is good. The reason I prefer physical media is that too stream a truly high def image, especially 4k, takes a ton of bandwidth. And with Comcast rolling out caps slowly but surely I expect to get bitten at some future point.

I can't say I haven't because I enjoy the extras as well both the sound quality and the video quality of media.

Missed my chance to buy a Steel-Book version but I'll probably pick up a Deluxe Edition this weekend.

I only buy it for movies I want to support really hard, Dr. Strange doesn't make the cut. The last one I bought was Warcraft Steelbook Edition.

I still buy media - mainly becasue image and colour fidelity matter to me. I've got a decent 4K setup (/humblebrag) - and a good disc with proper HDR encoding look phenomenal. Even with the best fibre connections 4k and HD streaming still uses compression that can really hurt the fidelity of the reconstructed picture (and sound) - and thats IF you can get a top rate connection that's stable for a couple of hours.

I'd love to see some of the marvel movies get 4K releases - I know they haven't been recorded in higher than about 2k - but the 2001 dimension hopping sequence the Ancient one puts Strange through would be mind-blowing with a good HDR encoding.

I only watch bluray movies because surround sound and image is way better than any streaming service.

That is one of the biggest reasons of why I still buy media because of the sound quality. That also is a clue to which types of movie I continue to purchase.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Steel Book from Amazon and available September 19 is..

Get ready for this.....

$79.00

Are they serious???? ** $79.00 ** ??? laughing

I still buy Blu-Rays, or DVDs if a BR format isn't available.

I just like the concept of "owning" the film . . . and I'm a little paranoid.

Something could always happen to the "cloud", and with streaming, if it's a film you really like and watch repeatedly, the frequency with which you stream the film can be tracked. I just don't care for the idea of advertisers or anyone else knowing how often I watch King of New York, for example. So I own a BR hard copy. As for downloading to my computer and saving it, my computer could always crash. My Blu-Rays and DVDs "should" last longer than my computer.

Now, granted, buying a hard copy is not that expensive for me, since there's only a few films I want to re-watch over and over-- currently I own only around 27 films, plus most of the discs for one TV series (The Office [U.S. version]).

I buy DVD's of my favorite movies, but not when they first get released (the last time I did that was for Skyfall). I get great deals at Big Lots (which is great, you can find all sorts of great movies for 5 dollars), I'll also go to thrift shops, Target, and 7-11's. I was able to buy Dr. Strange from Redbox for 3.99!
