Den inspirende sanger og sangskriver Jed Kings liv og ægteskab kommer i alvorlige problemer, da den sang han skriver til sin kone, pludslig ender med uventet at giver ham stjernestatus. Mens hans kone Rose må gå hjemme og passe deres søn Ray er Jed på turne med sin sang og hans band og da han begynder at spille sammen med den rå og vilde tøs Shelby Bale går alt fra skidt til værre, for skønt han har kæmpe succes på scenen, er det hele ved at løbe af sporet for ham udenfor scenen.
