This film portrays life of a girl passing into womanhood as utterly superficial and frivolous. They are meant to be 16 but act much younger. Am I out of touch with the yoof of today or was this just not a very good portrayal?
It is acclaimed in some circles, but I found the whistlestop tour of Vic's life too haphazard and unconvincing. It really drifted after she left her gang and the fringe characters in the second half were empty vessels. Are we meant to feel sorry for Vic having abandoned her siblings, tormented her boyfriend and ruined her life?
