Discuss Born on the Fourth of July

Yes, he settled into action hero mode as his go-to style, but if anyone attempts to say the guy can't act, they simply have not seen this movie.

He takes a very long story arc through some gut-wrenching experiences, delivering an earthy, real, humane portrayal of a real person's ordeals, juxtaposing the All-American facade with grim reality.

Bravo.

Rain Man is my default recommendation to anyone who thinks Cruise can't act - he's fúcking amazing in that film, and plays a bastard very credibly - it's when he's acting all squeaky clean that he comes across as creepy (like in MI:3 where he has NO chemistry with his wife).

Also, A Few Good Men, he's phenomenal and more than handles his showdown with Nicholson at the end.

Cruise embodies the 'movie star' as well as the best that have ever been.

I was also gonna say Rain Man. Though he's great in 4th July too.

Best acting, worst haircut
