Discuss What We Do in the Shadows

I found this on Amazon Prime a week or so ago and put it on my watch list. Sometimes movies on my watch list sit for a really long time, and some of them I never do get around to watching. I'm more into suspense/thriller/horror and about 95% of the movies I watch are that type; I have to be in the right kind of mood to watch a comedy, and there are few movie experiences worse than watching a comedy that you don't find funny.

Well last night I was somehow in the right mood, so I decided to watch this. I didn't even like the trailer; I didn't find it amusing so I had a feeling this would be one where I'd ditch it after about 20 minutes.

WRONG. It was HILARIOUS. It was actually the funniest in the first half hour or so, then slightly waned (I think I wasn't all that amused with the woman "familiar" personally), but then it picked up again.

Humor is very subjective so I get that there some people who don't like this movie. All I can say is look at the mostly positive ratings, but be aware of the few negatives. If you don't find it funny, don't feel compelled to finish it. But if you do think it's funny in the beginning, hang on because you're in for 90 minutes of great fun, and many, MANY awesome quotes and one-liners that will become instant favorites.

Love that movie too!!! Made in NZ, with an all NZ cast. Not bad for a little country !

I just watched this last night and loved it!

It's very close to my favourite comedy. You should also check out Eagle Vs Shark by the same director and star. And Flight of the Conchords too.

I'd struggle to think of a recent comedy I've enjoyed more. I actually liked the effects too, which added to it. Big thumbs up to the directors/leads and glad to see them cashing in in Hollywood.

Is the TV spin-off worth watching?

Don't expect it to be anywhere near as good as the film. But yeah, it's quite funny.

I watched the TV series before the film and love them both.

The episode with the vampire council (featuring the 3 main characters from this film and various actors who've played vampires) was hilarious!

That bit really was great. Best bit of the tv show.

It'd never happen but I'd love a tv show with the characters from the film as the main vampires.
