The exploitation of young men as prostitutes in the district around the Roman coliseum is the focus of Simon Bischoff's documentary and fiction piece that spares no close-up view of male anatomy. This latter trait reveals just as much about the tenor of this film as it does about the body. Several years earlier, Bischoff met the main 17-year-old protagonist here, "Er Moretto," when he was just a 13-year-old runaway. The intervening years show how he changed into a streetwise vendor of sex, and Bischoff also details how the 17-year-old is picked up by a middle-aged man to be his companion. Fiction segments do not fare as well as the documentary aspects of this work, which in the end, seems at least ambiguous, if not questionable, in its intent.

Rom im Sommer 1980. Der 13-jährige Franco bricht aus der sozialen Misere seines Zuhauses aus. Er treibt sich in der Großstadt herum, sein Geld verdient er als Stricher. Wegen seiner dunklen Hautfarbe nennt man ihn 'Er Moretto', den Mohren. Nach zwei Jahren verändert Franco (Alevino Di Silvio) sein Leben jedoch radikal. Er lässt sich von einem Krankenpfleger umwerben und nach und nach in die Gesellschaft einführen.

Per tutto il film il protagonista Franco, soprannominato ‘er moretto’ risponde alle domande del regista, suo amico da anni e probabilmente all’inizio suo cliente. Franco, che al momento dell’intervista ha 17 anni e mezzo, nel 1980, a 13 anni, aveva iniziato a prostituirsi spinto da un amico, ed era scappato dalla sua casa nella borgata Torre Gaia. Dopo due anni di questa vita di espedienti, l’incontro in una discoteca gay con un uomo quasi cinquantenne, Renato (interpretato da Francesco Gnerre ) gli cambia la vita. I due iniziano una specie di relazione e Franco col tempo smette di prostituirsi e trova un lavoro. Alla fine però Franco si trova una fidanzata, mentre Renato fa un matrimonio di convenienza. Franco nega decisamente di essere ‘frocio’, dice di non apprezzare il sesso con gli uomini e di aver avuto con Renato solo un rapporto di affetto come tra amici o tra padre e figlio, ma mai amore...
