Max dokončil školu a pomalu se z něj stává dospělý muž. Musí najít své místo v životě a opustit ochranná křídla své matky Agnethe. Dívka Kaya, kterou potká, mu pomůže odstřihnout se od matky, stát se nezávislým a nakonec se i odstěhovat. I když se Max původně vydá za otcem, skončí jako podnájemník u souseda Steena Kolda. Rád by jel s Kayou na festival Roskilde. S lístky mu za protislužbu pomůže Steen Kold, který na festival také jede. Maxova máma se bojí, že se jejímu synovi něco stane, a tak se rozhodne Maxe a Steena Kolda sledovat. To vede k řadě dojímavých i neuvěřitelně trapných událostí, jež mají své kořeny nejen v matčině velké lásce k synovi, ale také v její touze být neustále středem pozornosti.

I 'Max Pinlig på Roskilde' er Max fyldt 16 år. Han er på vej til at blive voksen og har fået en stor trang til frihed. Derfor higer efter at tage på Roskilde Festival for første gang, men mor siger klart nej! I protest flytter Max over til sin far, trodser alle formaninger og kaster sig hovedkulds ud i festivallivet. Men da mor opdager, at Max er taget af sted, beslutter hun sig for at følge efter...

Max has finished school and is becoming an adult. He is on his way to find a life outside his mother's overprotective wings. When he meets Kaya, she gives him the final push to become independent and finally to move out. He moves over to his father but ends up as a lodger at the neighbour Steen Kold. Max would like to go to the Roskilde Festival with Kaya and gets help with the tickets from Steen Kold who is also coming along. Mom is afraid of what will happen to Max, so she decides to follow him and Steen Kold. This leads to many poignant and incredibly embarrassing episodes deeply rooted in her great love for her son, but also in her desire to still be in the centre of his attention.
