Yes i like both the Amazing Spider-Man movies, I prefer the second one. Too bad the third has been cancelled. Peter Parkers personality and humor is like the comics.

The only problem i have with the first movie is the process of Peter becoming spiderman.. We seen that too much already imo... I hope Spider-Man Homecoming skips that for the most part.

Yes. I am of the minority that will say I prefer the Amazing Spider-Man movies to Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. I too am bummed that the third was cancelled and they have another actor for the role.

I haven't ever disliked a Spider-Man film- and yeah, this is good- though I do prefer Tobey Maguire's series

I found it was a more mundane way of telling a story we'd already seen. I liked the second one a bit better because it was telling it's own story and was a bit more fun. Taking it all serious and glum works for Batman. Spiderman? Not so much.

it's an awful, awful mess. these people didn't understand the characters.

I think it was an unnecessary film. In my book I think the first two Raimi Spider-man flicks are still the best Spider-man films. The problem I had with Amazing Spider-man was that it redid story beats Raimi had done already, such as the origin story. Even though I did not think Homecoming was as good as Raimi's first two flicks I thought it was the best Spider-man since the second one. Mainly because it actually did a story with Spider-man we had not seen. There is some good in Amazing Spider-man but not enough for me to want to revisit them.

I agree. I haven't actually seen Spiderman: Homecoming. But I am interested in it for that very reason. I had no interest in The Amazing Spiderman at all. The same things happen in it as Raimi's Spiderman but with the exciting bits taken out. In the first one you felt it when Uncle Ben died. There was a whole elaborate sequence leading into it and it resonated with Parker's guilt and motivation. In The Amazing Spiderman it was just- 'oh'.

Amazing Spider-man just changed the tone, love interest and villain. That is like making a cherry cheesecake and then you make a strawberry one and try to pawn it off as something so exquisite and new. Different topping but at the base it is the same cake. Raimi's Spider-man films were great and magical. Raimi's Spider-man flicks to me are very reminiscent of Donner's Superman films. Donner and Raimi's films are both lighthearted, uplifting and cheese but in a good classic cinematic way. The beautiful part is even though cheese and more over the top both Donner and Raimi knew how to blend in great dramatic character moments as well. You're preaching to the choir about Uncle Ben's death in Amazing Spider-man. That was one of the biggest reasons I thought Raimi's was infinitely better. I truly felt Uncle Ben's death and the reveal of Peter's face when he realizes it was the thug who he let escape was fantastic. Amazing Spider-man goes for a more grounded approach which I am not totally against but do something else other than a story we have already seen. Honestly that was the same problem I had with Man of Steel. Same thing it tells an origin story we had already seen it just modernizes it and changes the tone big deal. Batman Begins is how you do a reboot studio executives should take notes.

I liked the title: The Amazing Spider-Man

Oh, yeah. Magical is the word. Dare I say there's even a hint of Capra about them. And I think they're the main reason there is such a superhero craze today. Raimi knew how it was done.

Strangely, that's exactly what I thought the last time I watched Donner's Superman. The structure, tone and themes are very similar. It's clear Superman was a massive influence for Raimi.

Oddly, that was originally going to be the title for Raimi's Spiderman 2, which, aptly is the one I think most deserving of the title.

See I am 28 so Donner's Superman was before my time. I remember my father showing it to me when I was a little kid. Of course being young I was not really interested. Then I saw Spider-man in theaters when it came out. I was 13 or 14 when I saw it and it was truly a great experience. Anyway when I was 19 I decided to revisit the Donner Superman movies. Now that I was older and learned to have a deeper appreciation for cinema I realized how good it was. I saw just how much Raimi took from the Donner movies. Even though they were before my time I hold a great appreciation for those films. After all it is what showed superheroes were possible on the big screen. Superman can not escape Donner's shadow. The reason they can not is because they keep on going over things he has done already. Superman 3 and 4 are lackluster sequels that derailed the franchise and Superman Returns and Man of Steel either try to copy what Donner did or modernize it and change the tone.
