What stops two people from being together? A third one. What stops one person from fighting for another? Nothing. Pedro lives in the suburbs, where he works with his father in a garage. Everyday he takes the bus downtown where he goes to school and meets his friends. It's summertime and they all go down to the river where they spend their free time or even their school time. Among joints, motorbike riding and swimming, everything seems to go well with this group of friends, until the moment when Pedro and his best friend find out that both of them like the same girl. Pedro finds himself inside a downward spiral, where everything around him seems to fall apart. Like a magnet attracts the iron, Pedro seems to attract problems, from the school until his relationship with his parents. This is the story of Pedro, who by having his head being pushed down so much learned how to breathe under water.

Pedro lebt am Stadtrand, wo er in der Werkstatt seines Vaters arbeitet. Jeden Tag fährt er in die Stadt zur Schule. Dort hat er auch seine Freunde, mit denen er im Sommer oft zum Fluss hinuntergeht und dort Nachmittage verbringt oder den Unterricht ausfallen lässt.

Zwischen Joints, Mopedtouren und Badenachmittagen scheint in dieser Gruppe von Freunden alles gut zu laufen – bis Pedro und sein Freund sich für dasselbe Mädchen zu interessieren beginnen.

Pedro wird in eine Spirale von Ereignissen hineingezogen, wobei alles um ihn herum zerbricht. Wie ein Magnet Eisenspäne anzieht, zieht Pedro Probleme an, sei es in der Schule, sei es in der Beziehung zu seinen Eltern.

Dies ist die Geschichte von Pedro, der gelernt hat, unter Wasser zu atmen, weil man ihm den Kopf so lange nach unten gedrückt hat.

O que impede duas pessoas de estarem juntas? Uma pessoa a mais. O que impede uma pessoa de lutar por outra? Nada! Pedro vive na periferia, onde trabalha na oficina de seu pai. Diariamente desloca-se ao centro da cidade onde estuda e encontra o seu grupo de amigos por alturas do Verão, desce ao rio e aí passam as tardes, os tempos livres ou o tempo de aulas. Entre charros, passeios de mota e mergulhos, tudo parece correr bem neste grupo até qe Pedro e o Amigo começam a disputar a mesma rapariga. Pedro é lançado numa espiral descendente, onde tudo à sua volta se parece desmoronar. Como um íman atrai a limalha, parece Pedro atrair problemas, desde a escola á sua relação com os pais. Assim Pedro aprende a respirar debaixo de água.
