Discuss Valley Girl

I hear this movie has some of the most natural dialogue when it comes to teens from the Valley in the 80's. Is that true? Their dialogue often sounds like a parody of some real jargon, but on the other hand, it does often feel very genuine. So, did kids really talk like this?

I remember reading somewhere that this movie actually made them stop talking like that

I grew up in California in the 80s (and spent a lot of time in the San Fernando Valley), yeah the slang and use in the movie was pretty accurate. The slang as represented in the Moon Unit Zappa song however was a bit overdone. The fashion in the move was also about right, though needed a lot more blazers (Oh my God! I totally owned like 5 different neon ones myself).
