Discuss The Lion in Winter

Although this is based on true events and characters in history, there is no evidence that any of the events in this movie actually took place the way they are depicted in this movie. I don't care. This is one of my favorite movies. The dialog is sharp, intelligent, biting, and completely absorbing. Eleanor of Aquitaine is my favorite historical figure of all time, and Ms. Hepburn does her complete justice. The dialog exchanges between her and Peter O'Toole as Henry are brilliant. Count me as a fan, definitely.

Its one of my favorite all-time films. If Shakespeare were alive today and he wrote screenplays, this is what it would be like.

I wonder why Shakespeare never attempted to write anything about this period of English history? The themes are certainly up his alley.....familial discord, political upheaval, sexual escapades, etc. Maybe his current Queen was not in favor.
