Über Star Wars: Der Aufstieg Skywalkers diskutieren

Honestly yes they should have wrote a road map before they started, but the worst thing is Disney doesn't let there directors just do a good movie they prefer to meddle with all of them to put forth a message instead of a decent story. And let us be honest they would never have made Empire Strike Back because of the dark aspects of it. They just don't have the balls to take any risks and that is really the core of there problem this isn't Marvel.

just curious whats whingeing?

Didn't realise that it was a "rare outside of the UK" colloquialism! "Complaining persistently and in a peevish or irritating way" https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/whinge

In the states a similar word or spelling is whine or whining

yup too bad the original poster doesn't know how to spell, as there is no 'G' in that word.

I rather think it is the lack of quality and imagination. Hi Philippe how is life in post Brexit UK?

Sorry; didn't notice the second sentence. As Jar Jar Binks would say, "How wude!"

Well, we have wannabe President Johnson trying to only allow sympathetic reporters into press briefings and attempting to purge his cabinet of anyone who isn't a "yes" man. Plus he's deporting a load of people, mainly for the crime of possession of a dark face (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/feb/10/windrush-deporting-people). At least he's trying to build a bridge rather than a wall. Admittedly he hasn't got a great track record on bridge building (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-47228698) and the bridge he's proposing is between Scotland and Northern Island over deep, stormy waters that have been used as a dumping ground for munitions. What could go wrong?

Wow that seems a bit cruel to transport people from the UK who have been in the UK since they were a child because of some minor crimes.Which surpruses me that the UK government never to my knowledge have given various general pardons to children of refugees and illegal children since the Dutch government has done so on many occasions and even quite recently. The whole irony of this whole story is that for every reasonably assimilated foreigner they now transport dozens of unassimilated refugees cross over from the European mainland every day (considering how many people try to cross over there at Calais the ports of Belgium and the ports of the Netherlands) and despite Brexit it doesn't look the numbers wanting to go to the UK has dwindled. So my guess is that the main reason why Brexit happened is not going to be realised and never will because in stead of making agreements with other countries of the Union to spread those refugees all over Europe the UK now has to deal with this problem on it's own because since the UK no longer is a member of the Union it is no longer the Union's problem.Sure the French,Belgium and Dutch authorities will check the trucks, trains and ships more carefully but that is never going to be full proof neither is it a solution to the problem what instigated Brexit In the first place.

They spend more than £50m+ m on a bridge that never happened?Well it seems ludicrous to spend that amount of public money but we Dutch have some experience in spending public money on pointless prestige public works and believe me going through with these projects costs way more than £50m+ in fact we spend billions of € on a rail cargo connection to Germany which only recently was connected to the German railway system or or a high speed rail and train that can't travel at high speed because of the short distances here both costing way more than the projected budgets and cost the tax payer billions of € not to mention the billions of € it cost to build a couple of kilometres of subway line in Amsterdam. So sure that amount of money seems a lot but consider the alternative if they would have gone along with the plans to build the bridge it probably ended up costing the tax payers way more money.

I believe the "whinge" spelling is the proper British spelling while the "whine" is American.

The Windrush thing is particularly unfair as the first generation (who the government is also trying to chuck out) were asked to come over to help rebuild after WW2. Yep, maybe Brexit will slow immigration from poorer parts of the EU, but there will be increased immigration from the rest of the world; the government will still want cheap labour. If the big worry was the erosion of "British culture" I'd suspect that people from Europe would be far more likely to integrate rather than those from places where the ethos is very different.

Don't worry! we have our own high speed rail project that is late, over budget and will likely not be high speed over parts of it's length. The bridge thing would've cost more money to build - but how on earth can you spend £50m before even a single brick is laid?

I sometimes wonder if the Freemason type conspiracy theories might hold some truth. Whichever party is in power, they will always spend billions on dubious construction projects...

We also have "whine", but that tends to be a bit less "constant".

Have also remembered that the Australians use "whinge" in their famous description of English people as, "Whingeing Poms". Allegedly this stems from a policy in the 1960s that encouraged English to move to Australia, but they found the conditions tough going at first and complained a lot and it stuck. They often drop the "e" though.

Thank you very much for that explanation that along with really all you say on here (even though I dont always agree hehe) at least you state everything concisely and very informative and for that you have my respect.

In Australia here, it's kinda funny that all govts (states & federal/national) want increased immigration to boost economy, yet they rely on votes from conservatives who want to reduce/stop immigration. So when interviewed, those politicians couldn't give a clear answer, hahah!

Many years ago, I used to sell international phone cards (that you have to punch in a paragraph of numbers before connecting). A popular phone card was "Whinging Pom", and it made us laugh. But someone complained or something, and the company changed their message. Wish I kept one copy :p

I feel strange just 10yrs ago, we had Obama, Gordon Brown & Kevin Rudd. And now we have Trump, Johnson & Morrison from the opposite camp... Makes life slightly more interesting!

Now we need a comic book to make sense of TROS. laughing
