Discuss Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Honestly yes they should have wrote a road map before they started, but the worst thing is Disney doesn't let there directors just do a good movie they prefer to meddle with all of them to put forth a message instead of a decent story. And let us be honest they would never have made Empire Strike Back because of the dark aspects of it. They just don't have the balls to take any risks and that is really the core of there problem this isn't Marvel.

Wasn't the TLJ dark enough? laughing

As long as it makes over a billion dollars, TPTB will continue making this kind of movies.

what with the your mama jokes and the rest of that garbage?

I meant "dark" as in it being the worst nightmare for SW fans.

I read your subsequent comments, so I get your original point.

Treating your comment as a serious one, I'd argue that there's a different type of darkness in Empire vs. TLJ. Empire was only "dark" in that it went a different emotional direction than the first movie. It treated the characters as humans rather than archetypes. It also enhanced the menace of Darth Vader and the Empire and bloodied the Rebels' noses. The ending was exceedingly grim, especially in an age long before the internet and the one year movie development cycle.

TLJ, by contrast, seemed more interested in shredding the original mythology than really crafting a compelling film. Did you ever worry what would happen to Finn, Poe, Rey, or Leia? Other than the endless slow-chase between the First Order and Leia's fleet, was there any tension in any part of the film? The darkest parts are what Johnson did with the Luke character coupled with the idea that the Rebellion was, in the end, worthless.

Maybe it's just that I never found any of the new characters compelling, but as "dark" as TLJ got it was never as grim as when Han was frozen, Luke lost an arm, and Leia futilely chased Fett's Slave 1 with a hand blaster. Instead we got a pissed off Luke who evaporated after straining too hard, a tacked-on romance between two people as lovable as a wet dog, Rey kinda-sorta-not-really training, and Weepy Ben Solo moping around until he kills Gollum. Meh.

I was serious about TLJ being a horrible movie and that it was far too busy pissing all over the legacy of the OT in stead of telling a good engaging and well structured story.

Of course you were serious, and you were also 100% correct. TLJ IS a horrible movie and does nothing put piss and shit all over the original story and characters of the OT .

Glad we agree

Didn't realise that it was a "rare outside of the UK" colloquialism! "Complaining persistently and in a peevish or irritating way" https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/whinge
