Ninny = Idgie?

It's strongly suggested at the end of the movie that Ninny is actually Idgie. It makes sense, because how else would she know the intimate details of all of those stories?

Apparently in the book - which I have not read - it is explicitly stated that Jessica Tandy's Ninny is not Mary Stuart Masterson's Idgie. I agree, however, that the film strongly implies that she is, so perhaps the decision was made to alter this from the novel.
