Negro: A member of a dark-skinned group of peoples originally native to Africa south of the Sahara.
Geoffrey Holder is acting in a role. Why was he cast? Because someone thought he could play the part? If Geoffrey Holder had been born in India (having Negro parents ) would he be better suited to play the part than being born in Trinidad?

I think that an Indian, born in Trinidad would have been better suited for the role :o)

Interesting use of word-play. Why would he need to be born in Trinidad to make him better suited for the role? Wouldn't the person need to be a competent actor? Did Holder's skin color invalidate him as an actor able to perform the part to the expectation of the casting director in your observation?
