I think the thing
Both are trying to survive by different means. Beldame used souls and the thing took on shapes to escape.
The beldame can shapeshift and so can it to anything they want.
The beldame can use magic fuled by children joining her.
The thing can hardly be killed unless you use fire.
The thing wins
