She knew the had mental problem but still brought her to farking South America. She could've told her she was pregnant.

I kept thinking about how much I wanted to hit Brinks! What an annoying POS! And Sara... I had to wonder how well Alicia really knew her cousin. Poor kid had never been out of her home state before and gets abandoned, for all points and purposes, by this cousin in some mess of a place in Chili.

Sara did not seem to know or care Alicia had mental instabilities and the rest of the gang, Barbara especially had zero tolerance for Alicia, issues or no issues. They treated her as a pest; the unwanted, or like Brinks did, a play-toy.

When things did get so obvious Alicia needed serious help, the South American idiot (Sara's boyfriend) allows her to be taken to a witch doctor instead of a hospital! Sure the hospital was five hours away but a witch doctor?? I mean in this day and age a clash of cultures like that is hard to fathom. Sara's bf seemed cultured enough not to believe in those superstitions (how did he meet American Sara if not in CA?) so it seemed beyond foolish to allow the whole nonsense ceremony to go on. Essentially these idiots drown Alicia.

I wish a better ending with some of these clowns going to jail had been tagged on. I imagine a a lot of "what is our story gonna be?" talk ensued with all the bad parts regarding what they did to Alicia to bring about her death omitted. However, if a autopsy reveals leaves in her throat and water in her lungs, well, if it ain't sea water out goes a story saying she drown diving off the rocks. Really... open ended is fine sometimes but here I wanted justice.
