Discuss Wadjda

Superficially this a very simple tale, but at both ends of the camera it's pretty impressive. The Saudi regime remains objectively extremely questionable in its conduct, but the fact a film such as this, which at its heart is critical of the hypocrisy of theocracy, can be made in Saudi Arabia gives me some hope for the region.

Engaging and with great performances teased out of the actors (including Wadjda herself) this is a real eye opener for anyone who, like myself, might have their own preconceptions of some of the more secretive regimes on the planet.

Here is hoping that films like this can be made more widely in the region and more girls can have the option to pick the life of Wadjda.
