Overview
A stop-motion film documenting the history of the Fens, specifically charting the draining of Whittlesea Mere, one of the largest lakes in England at the time of its draining in 1851, and the last area of wetland to be drained during the Draining of the Fens. "We made this animation with young people from Great Fen Greenwatch (our volunteering group for 12-18 yrs), Huntingdon Youth Centre and Great Fen volunteers. A huge thanks to Fenland Museums, particularly Stuart, who pulled everything together." - Great Fen Films The Great Fen is a collaborative project between five separate organisations to connect Woodwalton Fen and Holme Fen, two nature reserves in Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire, the latter believed to be the lowest point of land in the United Kingdom. The aim of the project is to conserve and protect threatened Fen wildlife and plants, such as otters and Fen violets.
