If true, thank freaking god. The source, some user on the fanboy site AVP, is shaky though. But hope springs eternal...

Yes, the public have spoken, no more thought provoking films should come out of mainstream hollywood, we just want easy to understand voyeuristic stimulation. If you want to make interesting intellectually stimulating film go to your sundance and your independent production companies and films we will never see. Leave us alone and give us our Justice Leagues and Star Wars'es! We don't want any of your highfalutin know-it-all-ness over here!

I've got nothing against creativity, I just hate where Scott took the Alien franchise by turning it into a pedestrian, predictable, juvenile rumination on AI and humanity. He had no idea what to do with the creature itself and thought that demystifying it by making David the centerpiece--and creator of the creature--was a good idea. If he wanted to ponder humans versus AI he should have created a new franchise instead of crapping all over Dan O'Bannon's creation.
I'm glad it's dead. At this point, I hope that nobody makes any more since it seems no one has anything new to say, anyway.

But making yet another movie version of "Paradise Lost" or whatever, is somehow new and creative and imaginative, because some people did a lot of mental wanking to it in college or whatever?

Not serious thoughts, anyway. Maybe the kind of stuff that some people thought was deep and serious in high school or college, maybe after a bit of smoking something.

Thought provoking, complex and intellectually stimulating are the antonyms of Alien: Covenant

See, I just don't understand this kind of thinking(?). I thought this was not very good but do I care if they make a sequel? Not a bit. Why do you care? You're free to not watch it.

Because if they hadn't made Alien: Covenant they would have gone ahead with Neil Blomkamp's planned installment. It was to take place after Aliens and early buzz from fans and the film's producers was very enthusiastic. The only reason it was scrapped was because Ridley Scott suddenly decided he was coming back to the franchise.
So we could have enjoyed a badass, genuine sequel made by someone who is a fan and both passionate and understanding of the franchise instead of Scott's flute twiddling philosophy/pretension. A film about Aliens rather than Michael Fassbots.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. That still doesn't answer my question.

Prometheus towers over all of Blomkamp's movies... Even Covenant gives all but the very best of Blomkamp's movies a run for thier money...

I can't answer for AlienFanatic. But for me the presence of an average film negated the presence of a film I would very much like to have seen. Yes I'm free not to watch Alien: Covenant. But I'm not free too watch the film it replaced.

I'm not saying BlomKamp is the greatest filmmaker in the world by far. But his vision was garnering a lot of interest. The idea of Scott returning was exciting because it promised a return to the series roots. A promise that was never fulfilled.
I'm saying this as someone who quite liked Prometheus. I did like the philosophy in it, found it interesting and did not see it as pretentious, unlike Covenant. But I disagree about it towering over District 9. I'd say it's maybe slightly better than Eliysium and Chappie. But District 9 is a more consistent, competent work.
And at this point we'd already had Prometheus. We didn't need another one. Let alone one masquerading as a proper Alien film.

i didn't get the timelines correct of when Blomkamp's movie effort was made... if it was supposed to be instead of Covenant than it might have been interesting...
