Discuss The Notebook

This film take almost sci-fi like artistic liberties about the absolute horrors of dementia with the unrealistic portrayal of a victim remembering a story she is told throughout the course of a day. The love triangle is played well enough with the exception of the predictable trope of the pantomime villain of a mother hiding letters. My recording cut out after 90mins and honestly I wasn't bothered about seeing the last 30 mins.

But the next day I hunted down the last 30mins online and I'm so glad I did. A brief flicker of a small portion of the true horror that is dementia and the misery it causes followed by an acknowledgement that the ending (and entire story) was a miracle (i.e. breaking the fourth wall a little to show it knew it was taking liberties all along).

Hopefully there is a future in more countries where terminally ill, suffering, individuals like the two lead characters can also choose a fitting ending for their lives at a time of their choosing rather than being forced to live their lives in misery, confusion, fear and suffering. After 90mins I'd give this 4/10, but...
