Another IMDB refugee here. I agree, we need to start posting so the boards will not stay empty and attract more people to post as well. It will be also nice if we could attach images to the posts, it's 2017 after all.
Hey, does anybody want to talk about this movie? I watched it quite often back in my teens, now I rewatched it after ca. 7-9 years, and man it didn't loose any of its impact on me. Overwhelmingly sad and a little hopeful at the end, and a crazy kind of tragic/erotic fever dream in its two thirds before that.
This time, I had a better understanding of Renato's emotional journey and the way he reacts to almost every single development regarding Malèna's relationship with the town and its inhabitants on the one side and also to his own (extremely one-sided) relationship with her on the other side. The one-sidedness of the relationship is something I either didn't want to or wasn't ready yet to understand back in my teens and this time around that hit me way heavier.
I have to say I struggle with my own emotions about the way the movie portrays women, in this post #MeToo world: I like the movie very much, at the same time I can see how a lot of people have their problems with it.
As you can see there's a lot I would like to unpack about this movie. Anybody?
