The story of a six year old boy from Phoenix, Arizona whose dreams of becoming a Kungfu master lead him to the birthplace of martial arts - the legendary Shaolin Temple in China. His father must now face a heartbreaking decision and follow his son to China leaving the mother behind in America... a choice few parents could ever imagine.

Frank the carpenter is in love with Hsiao Cheng, his boss's daughter. Frank knows there is no hope for him to marry the daughter of the haughty, rich man, and pronounces a vow to become a Shaolin monk. The wife of Frank's former boss has an extra-marital affair with the carpenter-shop's foreman. When the boss finds out, the foreman kills him, and sets the blame on Frank. Frank will fight for his honour, and wins back his good name - but not his former love.

During the Sung Dynasty, there is an order of monks enforces their own regulations harshly. Even when the evil Jins attack, and martial arts supremo Zhi Xing helps fight them off, he is punished for practicing fu without permission. The local militia, loyal to the Emperor, is led by a sword fighting beautiful woman, who teams up with some of the monks. One of these monks also has the power to summon animals and birds to help in the fighting.

The plot centers on Little Lu (Sonny Yu) who tends horses for the local Shaolin temple, and wants to learn skills that will help him defeat some corrupt officials who want to destroy it. He has a couple of friends (one with no arms, the other with no legs) who help him train using some bronze mechanical horses in a secret room in the temple.

The High Abbot of Shaolin Temple sends the Ten Brothers, newly finished with their Shaolin training, as escorts to one Master Chu. Master Chu has been living in the Temple for two years waiting for the right time to leave and renew his fight against the Mings. The road to victory is filled with danger--can the Ten Brothers guide Master Chu through?

When Kang Shi-baek's head was about to be cut off, two of the masters Mok-ryun show up and rid of Hwang-baek group. A monastery holds four books containing the secrets of its powerful martial arts techniques. Everybody wants to get their hands on them, including a band of local evil types. The abbot is killed, and the head students begin to argue over who should keep the books safe.

Disguised as a Holy Monk of the Golden Light Temple, Tian Yuan challenges the high priest of Shaolin for ultimate rule of the holy place. But just as combat ensues, Emperor Tang's guards overrun the temple, killing all in their path (except a small group of priests who escape with the venerated - and magical - holy robe). The forces of evil and black magic are at it again as an ancient warrior is revived in a black magic ceremony. It is up to some young students to train themselves in the martial arts and magic to help defeat this evil man. The good Shaolin monks must also find a way to protect themselves. A couple of ninjas dressed in red appear to attack a priest. A train of hopping zombies on their journey to their ancestral burial ground briefly appear as do some vampires and demons.
