Įkvėptas bokso rungtynių Niudžersyje, kur Čiakas Vepneris narsiai pralaimėjo Muchamedui Ali, S. Stalonė per tris dienas parašė scenarijų ir labai pigiai, bet su sąlyga vaidinti pagrindinį herojų, pardavė prodiuseriams. Nuo šiol S. Stalonei pradėjo šypsotis sėkmė. "Rokis" gavo Oskarą kaip geriausias metų filmas. Paauksuota kino akademijos statulėlė atiteko ir filmo režisieriui Džonui Avildsenui. Be to, "Rokis" buvo nominuotas dar septyniems "Oskarams", du iš jų jau galėjo atitekti S. Stalonei kaip geriausiam metų aktoriui ir geriausiam scenaristui.
