Rei Kiriyama is een 17-jarige shogi-speler (Japanse schaker). Hij debuteerde als professionele shogispeler toen hij op de middelbare school zat. Hij woont alleen in Tokio, omdat zijn ouders en jongere zusje op jonge leeftijd omkwamen bij een verkeersongeval. Op een dag ontmoet Rei Kiriyama drie zussen die zijn buren zijn.
