The story of a poor young woman, separated by prejudice from her husband and baby, is interwoven with tales of intolerance from throughout history.

After a roustabout sailor avoids being shanghaied in 1850s San Francisco, his audacity helps him rise to a position of power in the vice industry of the infamous Barbary Coast.

A robber decides to hide his loot in a ghost town, helped by his girlfriend and his one remaining man. Keeping it though may be a problem, with the lone inhabitant, an old lady, a mysterious stranger, a recent widow and a former gang member all more or less plotting against the bandits.

A condemned man manages to avoid being hanged from a bridge over a river when the rope breaks. He falls into the water and his escape attempt ensues.
