Året er 1967, da Munro begiver sig ud på sit livs rejse mod de saltede, flade sletter i Bonneville, Utah, hvor fart-entusiaster én gang hvert år tester klodens hurtigste køretøjer. Men for Munro, der er bosat i New Zealand, er Utah på den anden side af Jorden, og turen dertil bliver en ikke helt ukompliceret affære.
