I animationsfilmen 'ParaNorman' føler Norman Babcock sig med rette misforstået. Han kan nemlig tale med de døde, men når han fortæller alle de andre om sin særlige evne, bliver han skældt ud og anset for en særling. At han bor i en by, der hvert år fejrer en 300 år gammel hekseproces med masser af uhygge, gør ikke tingene nemmere, og hvis ikke det var for den tykke Neil, der også er vant til at blive mobbet, ville Norman være helt alene... altså bort set fra alle dem, der hilser venligt på ham fra graven. Men da hans mærkelige onkel dukker op og fortæller Norman om en ganske særlig familietradition, begynder hans ellers uforklarlige samtaler med det hinsidige næsten at give mening... lige indtil onklen falder død om, inden han helt præcis får forklaret, hvad Norman egentlig skal gøre.
